A Man With Vision

This nice guy rang my doorbell to offer pest-control services. I was still at the studio but happened to be in need of service. He was willing to chat through my video doorbell, and circle back after I returned later that eve.

Once there he noticed I was a photographer and asked for a card. I get a great deal of card requests from sales people that usually feel like forged interest. Insincere interest with no follow through, as if the prospect of their business will pique my interest in theirs.

I could tell he was different. He was driven, polite and focussed. He shared his ambitions goals with me which led to a great chat.

He had a vision of what he wanted for headshots and I knew exactly how to produce it. I said “In fact, this is the stuff I LOVE to do - though most of my clients are seeking a more corporate look.”

Within 24 hrs of my signing up for service with his company he had gone online to book an appointment.

Meet RAY from APTIVE. I searched Yelp to discover, like restaurants, the bad reviews were not about the product, but about pushy sales people.

Clearly those people didn’t get Ray. He was one of the most grateful, enthusiastic, sell-by-not-selling sorts I have encountered for a long time. (And the tech that arrived the next morning could not have been more polite and informative)

Need pest control, but don’t want to be pestered by a salesperson? Give Ray a call 804-316-2186, no need to mention me - I’m not an affiliate, just happy to share the same experience.

The day of his session I spent a good half hour messing around with lights before he arrived, using four FlashPoint XPLOR600’s modified with a snoot, two thin-strips, an octagonal fill and one scrim (two if you count his hat).

I used nearly every GR signal on my Flashpoint Transmitter to produce the first image.

His true personality is polite and happy but knowing he wanted low key, dramatic impact I was able to direct him through some badass expressions to complete the vibe of this final image. Without a word about what my favorite was, it was this one that he upgraded to buy the 36” printable file.

Got a need for pest control in your home?

Passionate for nature, life, writing and sharing, this site is mutually dedicated to my three favorite vehicles through life - Photography, Writing and Speaking. As professional photographer I was (and still am) in my favored "Observer" mode. As writer, these observations exposed a deeper understanding into ethics, authenticity and leadership. As speaker, I get to be selfish. In giving we gain - big! By helping you to discover your own authenticity, passion and where you too are a leader, I get a huge pang of fulfillment. Yes, I am a giver - the most selfish sort of person that ever was. (that is, once you realize how great the results of giving truly are)
